The Northern Forest Center builds community and economic vitality while fostering sound forest stewardship across the Northern Forest of Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, and Maine. Its programs advance innovative strategies in modern wood heat, wood products innovation, Community Forests, Tourism development, tax credit financing, regional strategy and more. The Center's staff and board see modern wood heat as an extraordinary opportunity to retain wealth in the region, support a thriving and diverse forest economy, and help keep forests as forests. The wood heat program includes clustered wood pellet boiler demonstrations called "Model Neighborhood Projects" advocacy for supportive public policies, and multi-faceted communications about the benefits of modern wood heat. In Vermont, the Center is currently involved in three distinct wood heat demonstration and education programs taking place in the Northeast Kingdom, the Upper Valley, and Windham County.
