REV is the only organization dedicated solely to working toward increased renewable energy use in Vermont. It is important that you contact your representatives and let them know how important legislation in support of renewable energy is. Don't be shy about calling your legislators at home. They are elected by you and will be open to hearing from you. You can find contact information for your representatives in the legislative directory.
REV is focused on two bills in 2008:
A reincarnation of H.520, the energy bill that was passed in 2007 but vetoed by Governor Douglas. After the Legislature failed to override the veto, the Senate recast H.520 as S.209 with changes (such as removing the increased property tax on the VT Yankee nuclear plant) to lessen the governor's objections. The bill passed the Senate in late 2007 and passed the House in February. It was signed into law as the Vermont Energy Efficiency and Affordability Act on March 19, 2008.
If you'd like more information on legislation or on contacting your representatives, send us an email or call us at 229-0099. We'll be glad to help you.
We also encourage you to send letters to the editor in
support of renewable energy legislation to statewide newspapers, as well as your local paper.
