University of Vermont | Biomass to Biofuels | August 26-December 4, 2013
Depleting fossil fuel reserves and adverse affects of fluctuating oil prices have renewed interest in alternative and sustainable sources of energy. The University of Vermont is actively involved in this area through research and instruction. Experts in following areas will provide hands-on instruction in various biofuels including: LIQUID BIOFUELS (transportation fuels; biodiesel from oil seeds and waste vegetable oil; bio-ethanol; algae-biofuel); SOLID BIOFUELS (woody biomass; grass energy); BIOGAS & BIO-ELECTRICITY (the farm-based energy); BIOHEAT (Heat capture from biomass, e.g. compost); and BIOFUELS RELATED ENVIRONMENTAL, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL ISSUES. This course covers a wide-range of Biofuels related science & technology topics, background & literature, as well as important environmental, economic, social and other Biofuels related issues. This five-day introductory course will prepare you to work at an entry level in the solar industry and will provide you with the knowledge to take the North American Board of Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Entry Level Exam. The 40-hour program combines lecture and discussion, in-class and out-of-class exercises, and hands-on activities. This two-day Introduction to Solar Hot Water workshop will give you a solid foundation, covering how solar hot water systems work, installation basics, and the equipment required. Course format will include both classroom training and applied learning. Here’s what will be covered: Basics of solar design, solar site analysis, and types of solar thermal systems; Understanding SRCC ratings, necessary system components, and common code concerns; storage tank and expansion tank sizing; roof and ground mounting approaches; system control options and intro to heating systems. Solar hot water (thermal) systems have been around for decades, but have never been as popular as they are today. Bob Ramlow is one of two ISPQ certified independent master trainers in the Solar Thermal industry. His book, ‘Solar Water Heating’, is recognized as a comprehensive design and installation manual and serves as our guide for preparing for the NABCEP Entry Level Exam. This 40 hour course includes a text book, video lessons, reading assignments, quizzes, discussion, homework problems, and design software. It’s the most comprehensive course available for building professionals getting into solar.
HeatSpring Learning Institute | Solar PV Installer Bootcamp | Various Dates
This intensive solar training teaches you to design, install, and sell solar PV (electric) systems, plus helps you pass the NABCEP Entry Level Exam. The training combines 16 hours of online lessons including reading assignments, worksheets and other prep with a 3 day classroom based boot camp including hands-on exercises and face to face time with an ISPQ Certified Master Trainer. Completing this course qualifies students take the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level Exam. The blended format of this course is designed to keep time off-the-job to minimum, and present the material in a variety of formats to allow for a variety of student learning styles. Building for Social Responsibility | Solar Hot Water Workshops |
