Perfect Power Conference - Local Power on a Smart Grid

May 22, 2009
Equinox Hotel
Manchester, Vermont

More than 150 people attended REV's 2009 distributed energy conference in Manchester. Businesses, utilities, communities, and customers came looking for local clean-energy solutions to help strengthen the electric grid, reduce costs and provide for local economic-growth opportunities. This year's conference, called Perfect Power–Local Power, delivered.

Focused on distributed energy solutions—such as customer-sited, combined heat and power projects; district heating systems; community wind plants; targeted energy-efficiency measures; smart grids; and much more—REV's annual distributed energy conference in Manchester is a day-long event designed to investigate the best interconnections between clean-energy technologies and the expanding smart electric grid. These interconnections are the foundation of diverse energy solutions to help build more resilient communities with higher levels of energy security.

REV Begins PV Training Program

In 2009, REV will host four PV-system training sessions to licensed electricians, electricians' apprentices, and experienced solar contractors. Each session covers the latest in solar-electric technologies and includes siting, design, installation, and maintenance of PV systems in Vermont.

The first three-day program, recently completed in Burlington, was taught by expert trainer Bill Brooks. (See below for details.) Subsequent sessions will be sited throughout the state to ensure widespread access and will be delivered on non-consecutive days to limit disruption to participants' work schedules. Space will be limited. Please check back frequently; we'll announce upcoming sessions as dates become available.

Training I
Course: Advanced Photovoltaic System Design and Installation
Dates: March 9, 10, 11
Time: 9 to 5, with breaks and lunch (provided)

REV Releases Results of Industry

A recent survey of Vermont businesses that produce renewable energy, manufacture renewable energy technology, sell and install equipment, and offer related consulting services demonstrates that the renewable energy business significantly contributes to the state economy.

As of September 2007, 50 renewable energy businesses operated in Vermont. They employed more than 545 Vermonters, with total compensation exceeding $36 million. And they reported over $188 million in sales for the year.

The survey found that after totaling direct, indirect, and induced effects, the industry is a vital and growing contributor to Vermont's economy, responsible for:

• Total sales of almost $259 million
• About 1,115 jobs in Vermont
• Total compensation equaling $55 million
• $17 million in tax revenues (not counting personal or business income taxes)

For more information, see our fact sheet on the survey results.
